Client accused of domestic violence assault of significant other in public with witnesses and 911 call. Client was at risk for incredibly serious additional criminal charges. Strategic planning, thorough review of legislative history of domestic violence laws, and boldness with the case results in dismissal of charge on day of trial. Research and preparedness wins the day. Client risk = 6 months jail, 3 years probation, $2,500 fine plus surcharges, mandatory domestic violence counseling, loss of gun rights, and significant risk of further felony charges.
